American film director, screenwriter and producer, born 29 August 1939 in New York City, New York. USA, died 22 June, 2020 in New York, aged 80. Songwriting credits attributed to him are most likely erroneous: Car Wash, the movie, was written by Schumacher but the soundtrack, including the eponymous song and I'm Goin' Down, later covered by Mary J. Blige, was written and composed by Norman Whitfield.
