After learning to play the clarinet and saxophone he founded his first band called Orquesta Bahía, with which he played boleros and other Caribbean rhythms. The musicians of the band came from the Colombian departments of Valle del Cauca, Nariño, and Cauca. Enrique Urbano Tenorio is considered the "Lucho Bermudez of the Pacific" because he was a musician (clarinetist and saxophonist like Bermudez) who brought the folk music of the Pacific region to the upscale salons and dance clubs.
