Annie Mad

Belgian artist. Lives and works in Lagos, Portugal with Bert De Coninck. She's the mother of Jeremiah Persyn. She began her career as an artist at the age of sixteen. She studied at Art Academies in Belgium. She received an art and art teacher diploma. She first exhibited work in 1973 and has since held group and individual exhibitions. Also she participated in experimental art events, i.e. Mail Art Electronic Networking Project in 1993. She has been teaching at several art schools in Belgium and at the Vale Verde International School in Portugal. In Portugal she used many hours to observe animals resulting in a large number of sketches, water-colours and paintings. ‘The year of the Cat Project’ and ‘Mad about Dogs Project’ (2000 – 2003). Her most recent work is a set of graceful paintings depicting horses. Lately she started a series of mysterious blue landscapes. ‘A walk between Dream and Dawn’. In 2009-2010 she collaborated with her son Jeremiah Persyn writing the scenario for the comic ‘Marzapane’, based on La Salsichafobia De Marzapane edited by Ballon Media Antwerp.
