(June 26, 1951 - December 22, 2001) American television personality, magazine columnist and new wave rock-n-roll performer. Lance Loud was best known from 1973 An American Family pioneer reality television series in which he came out as a gay man to his family. After the TV show he became gay icon for coming out in public. Later he gained fame as lead singer and co-songwriter in the popular CBGB era NYC headlining pop/punk band Mumps. When Loud retired from music he became writer with a monthly column in the Rock Scene magazine. He also wrote columns in The Advocate, Details, Interview, and Creem. Lance Loud died in 2001 suffering from HIV and hepatitis C.
