Ghanaian singer was born in 1934 at Akim-Wenchi in the Eastern Region. Skido Agyekum, as he is popularly called, had his elementary education at the Awisa Presbyterian Middle school. While at school, he showed remarkable interest in music and was appointed singing prefect. After he had obtained the Middle School Leaving Certificate he decided to become a driver and soon obtained his driving license. Driving, according to him, was not his profession. Despite his father’s advice, deserted driving and join Willy’s National Trio, a concert party. At the same time, he composed songs for Gyasi’s Guitar Band. He later resigned to join E.K.’s No.1 band, then to E.K.’s No. II and finally to Onyina’s Guitar Band. It was Agyekum who induced Onyina to form a concert party. After an unsuccessful association with musicians and concert parties, Agyekum decided to form his own guitar band and with the help of Messrs Daniel Kyei and Larbi who bought him instruments, he formed the Happy Stars Band, assisted by C.N. Nortey and E.O Frempong, co-singers whose melodious voices have brought great popularity to the band.
