D. S. McCosh

American composer and band leader, engraver and music publisher (b. December 15, 1847 in Quincy Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania – d. October 31, 1936 Polo, Ogle County, Illinois) After serving as bandleader in Dixon and Freeport, where he began publishing his first compositions, McCosh settled in Chicago, where he took over first the Second battalion Band, then Lyon & Healy's Band, later the Westside Military Band and Bowman's Military Band. Of his around 4,000 compositions, "Hear Dem Bells" became the most popular.
