The Settlers comprised of Ulick O'Boyle, Anne Rutherford, Peter Barry and Paul Davey. The group formed in Jindabyne NSW in the early 1960s. The original group members on the first album were Ulick O'Boyle, Anne Rutherford and Peter Barry. The members on the second album were Ulick O'Boyle, Anne Rutherford and Paul Davey. Paul went on to sing and perform on all the following albums that Ulick produced. Anne sang on four of the albums. The Settlers were brought together by the very talented Ulick O'Boyle. Ulick was a prolific writer of songs, poems and ballads. His most endearing and significant compositions were his songs about the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme. The Settlers first album, Songs of the Snowy Mountains, was recorded in 1966. Over the next thirty years Ulick O'Boyle, the lynchpin of the band, was to produce five more Snowy albums – More Songs of the Snowy Mountains, West of Cooma, Snowy Rambler, Mountain Tracks, and Kiandra and Beyond. Ulick O'Boyle was the poet, songwriter, creator of the music and founder of the group known as The Settlers. He passed away in 2011, aged 79.
