"Modern Primitives have been growling around the Charlotte scene since 2011, honing their techniques by focusing on their prolific live performances. Their sound is a premium blend of loose psychedelia, wild rock, and just the right amount of boozy, hungover blues. These personalities work as one, culminating in the smirking, melted madness between garage glam and psych-rock. As their name suggests, Modern Primitives have an aware unpretentiousness, yet have shared the stage with bands such as Of Montreal, Clear Plastic Masks, Mona, Miniature Tigers, and The Melvins. They're the common man working out the wonders of life through good ol'fashioned rock'n'roll, and who in these times can't relate to opening up a cheap beer and having a few laughs? Guitarist Travis Phillips carves intricate grooves that delicately balance raggedy unsophistication with an endearingly classic style, cleverly mimicking the duality of the iconic America plain white t-shirt he's normally seen in. Subtle and patient, drummer Phillip Gripper reins in each careening note, driving fastidiously through the dangerous, winding tracks. These days the Modern Primitives are taking their music up a notch with the acquisition of their newest member, bassist Tim Nhu. The addition of Nhu's talents has quickly provided the band with a newfound definition and platform for songs to lurch off of. With this new confidence, the Modern Prims have put out their first music video 'Lay with the Dead', a demented dance with the devil himself accented by fuzzed-out chords, sneering vocals and just the right amount of creepiness."
