Daniel Deshays (born July 8, 1950 in Versailles, France) is a sound engineer and director, a master in sound research, recording and production. Since 1974, Deshays has produced a large body of work and directed sound for film, theatre, television, dance, art exhibitions, studio recordings, and site-specific installations. As a sound engineer he has produced and recorded more than two hundred and fifty albums encompassing all genres of music and particularly Jazz (50 albums for the NATO label) and also experimental music. He has collaborated with stage designers Philippe Noir and Christine Devichet in the conception and staging of sonic spaces in various museums and monuments. He has conceived and directed sound for dance performances. For theatre, Deshays has developed a personal approach to sound writing since 1977 and collaborated extensively with a large number of stage directors. As a recording artist, Deshays has composed and played pieces in duet with the British saxophonist Lol Coxhill.
