Joe Phillips

For the Canadian bassist, see Joe Phillips (2) American bassist, guitarist, songwriter, vocalist born in Darlington, S.C. in 1951 and worked in the Washington D.C. area throughout the late 1970s and 1980s. After graduating from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., he played guitar for The Manhattans and later became music director for Al Wilson. Also worked with Barry White and The Love Unlimited Orchestra, Martha Reeves, The Soul Train Gang (from the hit TV show) and Cornelius Grant. In 1996, when a concert promoter was interested in The Winstons performing on his show, he reorganised the group.
