Edward Early

Edward Early, Jr., AKA "Little Woo Woo," (b.February 23, 1939 - d. August 9, 2021) from Dayton, Ohio. Edward graduated from Paul Laurance Dunbar High School, class of 1958. At the time of graduation, his destiny was in the making. He was to bring the sound of music into the hearts and lives of others. He was a natural entertainer, and entertainment is what he did. Edward was given the nickname of "Little Woo Woo" by one of his uncles at an early age, and it just stuck. Music played a significant part in his life. He came from a musical family. Both his mother and father were musicians in their own right and taught him and his other siblings how to sing and play instruments. "Little Woo Woo" performed as a soloist in high school and he also established the group "Little Woo Woo and the Five Romans." After a brief stint, he soon was recruited to a musical group called the Moroccos of Dayton, Ohio. Just three years later, in 1960, the group recorded their first 45 single called "This Wonderful Girl Of Mine" on King Records label with "My One and Only." It was during this time he met the legendary James Brown in Cincinnati, Ohio. This Wonderful Girl of Mine received distribution on Port Records. In 1962, he and the Moroccos produced another single on Dayton imprint, Greenstar, with a two-sided classic featuring the explosive "The Big Swim." According to history, "Little Woo Woo" and the Moroccos received recognition by Motown. They traveled to Detroit to record a total of six sides in two sessions at Motown, one of tune was a catchy number called “Back in School Again”. In 1967, "Little Woo Woo" under the Heat Records "live" LP recorded the "Harlem Shuffle" and the instrumental "Outrigger." His love for singing and entertaining continued throughout his life. Over the years, he often spoke of how he worked with some of the most talented musicians in the Dayton Area. He performed at several events until 2019, when his health no longer permitted him to perform. In his later years, you could find him singing and performing special events.
