Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin is an American flutist, co-director of Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble and one of the founding members of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra Of Boston, an affiliated artist and Emerson flute instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1991. Sue-Ellen received her BMus degree from the Boston University and MMus from Stony Brook University, with Phillip Kaplan, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Samuel Baron as her principal teachers. In late December 1997, just a few months prior to his death, Sue-Ellen married an experimentalist composer Ivan Tcherepnin (it was Tcherepnin's third marriage). Hershman-Tcherepnin debuted as flute soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and had been performing with BSO across Europe, Mexico, South America, Russia, and the United States. She joined Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble in 1985, and has been an artistic co-director of the ensemble (with Yu-Hui Chang) since 2002. As a guest soloist, Sue-Ellen had appeared on stage with The New England Conservatory Ragtime Ensemble, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and other notable Massachusetts and Boston-area ensembles. She also frequently performs with pianist David Witten as Duo Clasico. The artist premiered several works by contemporary American composers, such as Tom Flaherty's Flute Concerto, and a flute concerto by William Eldridge, dedicated to Tcherepnin.
