Mark Kilstofte

Mark Kilstofte (b. 1958) is an American composer and music educator at the Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Kilstofte received a DMus degree in composition from The University of Michigan, where he studied with William Albright, Leslie Bassett, William Bolcom, and Eugene Kurtz. Mark was a Rackham Pre-Doctoral Fellow and worked as an assistant conductor of Contemporary Directions new music ensemble at UMich. His compositions have been commissioned and performed by The Louisville Orchestra, Dale Warland Singers, San Francisco Choral Artists, the Lutheran Choir of Chicago, the Oakland East Bay Symphony and other prominent ensembles. Mark Kilstofte participated in the World Saxophone Congress XI, the 6th International Festival of Brass, the Bowling Green New Music and Art Festival, Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, Florida State University Festival of New Music, Crane Festival of New Music and the Imagine Festival at The University of Memphis. The composer received several awards and scholarships: FROMM Foundation Commission, the Rome Prize, ASCAP's Rudolf Nissim Award, the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship and Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy Of Arts And Letters, the Aaron Copland Award (three times) and Francis & William Schuman Fellowship from the MacDowell Colony.
