Joseph Dangerfield (b. 1977) is an American composer, music theorist, pianist, conductor of Ensemble: Périphérie and a visiting assistant professor at The University of Florida College of the Arts. Throughout his career, Dangerfield has lived and worked in Germany, Russia, Netherlands, and the United States. He also used to work as an assistant professor in music composition and theory at the University of Iowa and the director of orchestral activities at the Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Originally trained as a pianist, Joseph began his composition studies at Marshall University where he received a BFA degree in 1999, followed by the MMus degree under Marilyn Shrude from Bowling Green State University in 2002 and a Ph.D. degree under David Gompper from the University of Iowa in 2005. In 2009 and 2010, Joseph Dangerfield was a Fulbright Scholar to Russia and the Netherlands, where he served as a composer-in-residence with the Studio for New Music Ensemble at Moscow Conservatory and guest lecturer at Conservatorium Maastricht. Instrumental and chamber compositions by Dangerfield had been performed at Wiener Konzerthaus, Moscow Conservatory, Frankfurter Künstlerclub, Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Tartini and other prestigious venues around the world. In the United States, his music was premiered at San Francisco New Music Festival, MusicX Festival at the Cincinnati Conservatory, Society for Electro-Acoustic Music and the Society Of Composers, Inc. Dangerfield received many prizes, such as the Aaron Copland Award (2010), the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra's Composition Prize (2010), Henry and Parker Pelzer Prize for Excellence in Composition (2005), and the ASCAP Standard Awards. Joseph was also a resident at the Leighton Studios in the Banff Centre For The Arts in Canada and the Yaddo Colony in New York.
