Lydia Canaan

Lydia Canaan is a Lebanese singer, songwriter, human rights activist and UN delegate. Lydia started her career as the teenage lead singer of heavy metal band, Equation, playing to sell out crowds in her home city of Beirut during the civil war. Her stage name at the time was Angel. Lydia became known for her on stage personality and earned the title of the "first rock star of the Middle East" in the Lebanese press. Journalists described her as a role model. Her original composition "Why All The Hurt" soared to number one in the Lebanese Radio Chart. She started her solo career in 1987 perfoming to a crowd of 20,000 at the Beirut Rock Festival. She started working with David Richards in 1991 and recorded a duet, "Love and Lust" with Roger Taylor the same year. Her 1993 song, "Libnan", has been commissioned by the Lebanese Ministry of Economy & Trade and used in an advert broadcast on CNN. Lydia is also well known for her humanitarian and charity work and has delvered several speeched to the UNHRC between 2014 and 2017.
