Canadian-Australian musician (saxophone), arranger & vocalist (b. Lancashire, England 9 June, 1911 - d. Sydney 12 Nov., 1954) Born in England but grew up in Canada where he learnt to yodel & play guitar. First professional work as a musician aged 19 with the Charlie Graves Orchestra. During the 1930s had his own bands at times and worked for other bandleaders at other times. Came to Australia with The Americanadians in May 1937. Joined Jim Davidson's ABC Orchestra in January 1939. Left Davidson in 1941 and took position as arranger for the Youth Show Program. Joined the AIF in March 1942 and became musicals director of The Waratahs, an army entertainment group which travelled to New Guinea to play for the troops. Returned to civilian life in December 1945 to work with Reg Lewis' band. Also several years as a member of the Colgate-Palmolive Radio Unit as arranger, deputy producer and deputy conductor. Later worked with Sammy Lee's restaurant and also with the A.B.C. Dance Orchestra.
