Fritz Zimmerman

Swiss American opera singer (tenor) and yodeler (b. January 21, 1881 in Lucerne, Switzerland - d. November 13, 1939 Los Angeles, CA) Zimmerman emigrated to the United States with his wife Mary and three children in 1916. He became a very popular singer of Swiss folk songs. Between 1917 and 1925, he recorded numerous songs for Columbia, Edison, and Victor, including a version of "I miss my Swiss" (Victor 19753) where he yodeled with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. He also toured the United States, often performing in duets with Marcelle Grandville. By 1930, he had moved to Los Angeles, California. When he became a naturalized U.S. citizen, he changed his name to Frederick Alfred Zimmermann.
