Bizarros (2)

Rock band from Austin, Texas, described by a member as a “psychedelized bar band.” The group would play at particular bars on Friday nights for years at a time, such as Continental Club and The Hole in The Wall. The group was started as Lee Ann & The Bizarros around 1969-1970 by Michael “Moondog” Bellamy and other English majors at University of Texas. Bill Bentley joined on drums in 1971. Other members included Ike Ritter on guitar, vocalists Sally James and Betty Burda, Lea Ann on piano and Jimmy Boone on guitar. Several members left and Bellamy and Bentley were then joined by bassist Speedy Sparks, guitarist John X Reed and rhythm guitarist Stan Coppinger. Sterling Morrison frequently played guitar with the band while he was attending the University of Texas in the 1970s, joining the band in 1976. Morrison was voted out in 1978, after which guitarist Bill Campbell joined.
