Do not confuse with British electronic music composer and DIY instrument maker Hugh Davies (1943—2005). American recording engineer (30 August 1923, Summerland, Canada — 15 December 2010, Oxnard, California). Hugh Davies was best known for working at Capitol Records from 1950 to 1985 and Harmonia Mundi (1985–90). He won two Grammy Awards for "Best Engineered Recording," for The Spanish Guitars Of Laurindo Almeida in 1961 and Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman in '69. Davies grew up in British Columbia and served in the Royal Canadian Airforce during World War II. He relocated to the United States in 1950, settling in California and working for Capitol Records, Inc. for over 35 years. Hugh B. Davies recorded and engineered many renowned musicians, including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and Frank Sinatra Jr., Nelson Riddle, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Buck Owens, Helen Reddy, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Gram Parsons, and The Beach Boys. In 1964, he was a live sound engineer for The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl.
