Dieter Acker (3 November 1940 in Romania – 27 May 2006) was a German composer and educator. Studied with Franz Xaver Dressler from whom he learned the German tradition. He never embraced the avant-garde but rather developed a personal style of intelligibility and clarity without resorting to popularism. His catalogue contains over 100 works including six symphonies, concertos, and much chamber music.
