Roger Volet

Born May 30, 1919 in Lausanne, Switzerland Died January 8, 1999 in Saint-Prex, Switzerland Swiss trumpet player and professor, band conductor and director. After studies at Lausanne and Geneva conservatories (trumpet virtuosity in Geneva in 1948), he becomes Professor of trumpet at the Lausanne Conservatory (1954-1957). A radio contributor since 1941, Roger Volet was music director at the Swiss Radio Corporation since 1956. Head of the Popular and Folk Music Department of the Radio Suisse Romande (RSR, 1965-1983). In 1971, he created the program "Le kiosque à musique", producing and hosting it until 1999. In 1946, he founded the Perce-Oreille brass band (Ensemble romand d'instruments de cuivre since 1952, official ensemble of the RSR since 1953), which he directed until 1978. Director of the Union Instrumentale de Lausanne (1948-1953) and of several other bands and military bands. Founder and director of the Payerne School of Music (1950-1956).
