German singer (baritone), pianist, and composer (born April 6, 1900 Nuremberg – died March 5, 1961 Nuremberg) Studied at the Nuremberg Conservatory (1913-1918) and worked as a concert pianist in Nuremberg (1918-1924). After additional voice studies under Felix Günther in Berlin he began a career as an opera singer, performing in Stralsund (1925-1926), Danzig (1926-1928), Aachen (1928-1932), and Stuttgart (1932-1944). In 1935, he was awarded the title Kammersänger. Starting around 1928, Bitterauf recorded a number of operas, operettas, and popular melodies for the Homocord label.
