Brazilian pianist considered one of the most expressive examples of music in Brazil. Fernando Lopes was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1935 and died in Campinas, on March 8, 2019, at the age of 84 years. He began his piano studies at the age of nine with Cecília de Mendonça and then improved with Arnaldo Estrella, being part of his first generation of students. He also had his pianistic training with: Magda Tagliaferro and Bruno Seidlhofer. Among his numerous awards are: Ministry of Culture of Brazil, President of the Republic Award in 1957 at the Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition, University of Bahia Award in 1958 and the Grand Schelling Prize at the Geneva International Piano Competition in 1961. He was a Professor Head of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and an eminent educator as Director of the Music Conservatory of Pelotas in Rio Grande do Sul, Director of the School of Music and Performing Arts of the Federal University of Bahia, besides being part of numerous Juries of National and National Competitions Music Internationals. As a recitalist and concertist he has performed in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Romania, England, Germany and the Americas.
