English writer, lyricist and director of theatrical revues. Born 26 March 1887 in Croydon, England. Died 15 March 1960 (aged 72) in London, England. Married to actress/singer Shirley Kellogg (1913-1924, divorce). He began as a stage director then moved onto writing and producing revues. Many of the revues he produced featured his wife and were performed at the Hippodrome in London, where he was also the manager. In the 1930s he turned to making films. His two most famous films, both featuring Jessie Matthews (2) were "There Goes the Bride" (1932) and "The Midshipmaid" (1932). He also directed "The Wrecker", an adaptation of Arnold Ridley’s play of the same name, and "Seven Sinners" (1936). In the 1940s he moved to New York, directing several Broadway plays.
