Herwig Zack

Born: Frankfurt / Main, Germany The German violinist, Herwig Zack, received his training in Germany from Karl-Albrecht Herrmann, Edith Peinemann und Max Rostal. Then from 1978 he studied at Indiana University in Bloomington / USA violin with Josef Gingold, and chamber music with György Sebök, Menahem Pressler and Georges Janzer. In 1976 he joined the eligibility list of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. He won prizes in several national and international competitions. From 1982 to 1995 was he was concert-master of the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester. As a soloist Herwig Zack has played under the direction of conductors such as Karl Münchinger, Ferdinand Leitner, Dennis Russell Davies, Gilbert Varga and Yutaka Sado. His music partners included Henryk Szeryng, Trevor Pinnock, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Bernd Glemser and Grigori Zhislin. With his brother, Bernd - Professor of Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock - he has long had a solid violin and piano duo.
