MOTH Raw-Hardcore-Punk-Thrash-Grind-Noise Perth noise mongers, MOTH (formally called EDICIUS) made their on stage debut in December '93 by winning the annual Battle of the Bands competition "Gozzy Rock" at Pioneer Park Amphitheatre. Competing against 12 other top local bands, they ended up not only winning the entire competition, but came away with Best Guitarist and Best Drummer award also. A short time later, they competed in another band competition at the Sundowner Hotel's "Judgement Day" taking away first prize again against 10 other local bands. MOTH began playing the pub circuit with bands such as ALLEGIANCE, iNFeCTeD, DOWNER, MORTIFICATION, EPITAPH, HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH, RUE MORGUE, and a host of others. During this time, the band has had positive response from both the music press and punters, consistently drawing crowds of 100-180 people to their own headlining shows. A demo tape, entitled "EDICIUS", was favourably reviewed by Hot Metal magazine receiving a "DEMO OF THE MONTH" credit. A short time later Hot Metal named the band in their December 1994 issue as being one of the TOP 5 UNSIGNED BANDS IN THE COUNTRY, and the tape being named DEMO OF THE YEAR, the judges being A&R people form RooArt and Warner Brothers record labels. MOTH will be appearing with the other 4 bands on a CD soon to be released by Warner Brothers. The band also has had tracks selected for inclusion on the Def Records' "Death Down Under" and Punctured Lung Productions "Re-evolution" compilation CD releases. In March 1995, MOTH played at the Palace in Melbourne. Reviews of the show state that the band was "highly recommended". Frantic, bottom end rhythmic dirges, complemented with odd time signatures and intelligent lyrics, have given MOTH their own instantly recognisable, unique sound identity.
