Catedral is a Brazilian rock band, formed in Nilópolis, Rio de Janeiro in 1988, known for their positive and popular Christian message in their lyrics, along with themes such as love and politics. It was the most notable Christian rock band in Brazil in the 1990s, emerging on the religious scene alongside other groups such as Rebanhão, Oficina G3, Novo Som, Fruto Sagrado, Resgate and Katsbarnea. However, the group's decision not to limit itself to Christian music led it to leave the MK Music (2) label and sign a contract with Warner Music Brasil in 1999. However, part of their Christian audience continued to be loyal to the group, and they were nominated and won the Troféu Talento (Talent Trophy), a popular vote, for several years. Even so, the band felt embarrassed to have won the award. The band also stood out in the media because their lead singer Kim had a voice similar to that of Renato Russo from the band Legião Urbana. Although the band denied any link with Legião Urbana, the comparison was inevitable in the eyes of the critics. The band's history has always been surrounded by success and controversy, most notably a rumor about an interview the band gave on the Jô show in which the group denied Jesus three times. Even though it was untrue, the news was considered true by a large part of the public and ended up damaging the group's image and causing them to lose a large part of their audience and have an artistic contract revoked by the MK Music (2)label. As a result, the members sued the label and won in court. The group also lost one of its members, Cezar, who died in a car accident. After signing with MK Music (2) in 2003, the band released A Resposta de 1 Desejo in 2004, which achieved great notoriety, receiving a gold record from ABPD. In more than twenty years, the band has sold more than 3 million records and made a name for itself in the national rock scene.
