Mohamed Benzerga was an Algerian singer born in 1936. He sang the musical styles of Oran and made his first recordings in 1957 at the Tam Tam (5) label in Marseille. After that, he recorded several singles on the Dounia label. In 1959 he was tragically killed in an accident while riding an electric scooter. His songs have gone on to influence the development of Raï music and have been covered by artists like Khaled and Houari Benchenet.
