Taylor Storer, general manager of the New Music Distribution Service, died 1985 in St. Louis after a long illness. He was 29 years old and lived in Brooklyn. Under Mr. Storer's direction, the New Music Distribution Service grew to be one of the most important musical service organizations in the country, carrying more than 4,000 privately produced albums on 300 independently owned labels. Mr. Storer was born in Maine and studied at Columbia University. He began his musical career at WKCR-FM, where he co-produced a festival of Minimalist music in 1978 and, the following year, with two partners, produced a five-hour benefit concert of new music at Carnegie Hall featuring Steve Reich, Philip Glass and David Bowie, among others. He also worked as a stage manager at the Public Theater and at the Kool Jazz Festival.
