The Radio Jazz Group Stuttgart was founded by Wolfgang Dauner during his tenure as radio hoster/producer for the SWF (Südwestfunk = South West Radio) in Stuttgart, Germany. For 15 years, from 1969 until 1984 the Radio Jazz Group Stuttgart (RJGS) did about 180 radio productions and concerts with almost 200 hours music. Sometimes even short tours were organized. The RJGS was not a group with a fixed lineup. Wolfgang Dauner was the only regular member. The members were invited on a workshop basis, although several musicians were welcomed repeatedly. Over the years musicians as f.e. Donald Rafael Garrett, Irène Schweizer, Herbert Joos, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Paul Lovens, Peter Kowald, Eberhard Weber, Günter Christmann, Michel Pilz, Ack Van Rooyen, Wadada Leo Smith, Günter Sommer, Fred Braceful, Gerd Dudek, Heinz Sauer, Buschi Niebergall, Karl Berger, Makaya Ntshoko, Palle Daniellson, Didier Lockwood, Michel Herr, Charlie Mariano, Trilok Gurtu, Toto Blanke, Han Bennink, Peter Brötzmann, Paul Lytton, Evan Parker, Hans Reichel, Tristan Honsinger, Paul Rutherford, Rüdiger Carl, Albert Mangelsdorff, Alan Silva, Zbigniew Seifert, Joki Freund, Terje Rypdal, Fred Van Hove, Chick Corea and Cees See were invited. Compositions and arrangements were provided mostly by Wolfgang Dauner's guests. Stylistically everything from Free Jazz to more mainstream leanings were allowed and encouraged. Seemingly none of these recordings - except one - were released, ever.
