English conductor, violinist & composer (b. 1884 - d. 11 May, 1970) Studied violin - became orchestra leader at the Adelphi Theatre and then conductor at the age of 20. Appeared many times as conductor of London Symphony Orchestra. Contracted to come to Australia as conductor of the Prince Edward Theatre Orchestra in Sydney from 3 Sept., 1927 and stayed in Australia for nine years. Gave regular violin concerts at Sydney Town Hall and bread art from the theatre. Also appeared at the Capitol Theatre in Melbourne during 1931 with broadcasts over 3LO. Recorded several of his own compositions while in Australia, and also wrote the popular number "Song Of The Bridge" which celebrated the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. Returned to England in 1937 and appointed Music Director for a British Council tour with the Old Vic Company to Europe. Had his own orchestra on the BBC 1945-1965.
