Swedish fiddle/violin player and writer, born on 11 July 1955 in Alvesta. He was director of Småland's music archive and deputy managing director of Musik i Syd. He is employed as an expert in music matters in the Nordic Council of Ministers and was previously chairman of the Norwegian Culture Council's phonogram support group. Since 2005, he has also been a member of Småland's academy, on seat 15. He is also a member of the Swedish Music Agency's transparency council. Since 19 May 2022 elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Music. Gustafsson has written a number of musicology and popular history books, is a national fiddler and a member of the groups Sågskära and Höök. For several years he has also simultaneously worked as a music journalist and reviewer at Sveriges Radio. His research focuses on, among other things, the history of Polish, medieval ballads and the wanderings of popular melodies. For a long time, he also had primary responsibility for the folk music festival Korrö folk music festival. Gustafsson is a doctor of philosophy in musicology. He received his doctorate on 4 November 2016 at Lund University. Appointed chairman of the artistic council at the Statens musikverk from on January 1, 2020.
