Cecil Dixon

BBC staff solo and accompanist pianist for Radio show "Children's Hour", which ran from 1922 to 1964. She studied at the Royal College of Music. She also sang but was called "the lady with the shy voice". She was born in Fiji and educated in New Zealand and Australia. She was the BBC’s first staff accompanist, hired in 1923 by Leonard Stanton Jefferies, who also attended the Royal College of Music. Dixon’s work included playing at BBC auditions, taking part in rehearsals and accompanying soloists and musicians of national and international repute. She remained with the BBC until 1945 after which time she performed occasionally as a guest artiste.
