Phil Hill

American jazz pianist. Born 1921 in Detroit. Michigan. He was for a time considered a "progressive jazz" player. From 1948 to 1951 he was the head of the house band at the Blue Bird Inn club in Detroit. Included in his band was Eddie Jackson, alto, Art Madigan on drums, Jim Richardson, bass, and Abe Woodley, vibes, and Hill on piano. Hill also worked with tenorist Billy Mitchell and in drummer George Jenkin's band.
