Eric Hubel is a musician, composer and performance artist, based in New York City and Toronto. For the past 30 years Eric has been at the forefront of the avant-garde post industrial movement and has worked with Glenn Branca, Matthew Barney, Jonathan Bepler, Elliot Goldenthal, J. G. Thurlwell, Eve Sussman and the Rufus Corporation. A graduate of Bennington College, during the late seventies Eric studied acoustics, composition and electronic music with Gunner Schonbeck, Joel Chadebe, Vivian Fine, and Milford Graves. His work has taken him all over the world, and is currently featured in Matthew Barney's "River of Fundament". Recent performances include Brooklyn Academy of Music, Primavera Sound Festival, Villette Sonique, Manchester International Art Festival, Art Basel, Donau Festival, Berlin Atonal, London Contemporary Music Festival, Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Mostra SESC de Artes, Bang on a Can Marathon, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Presenting their ongoing project "Hallicrafters", Eric and Algis Kizys performed live at Alte Schmiede in Vienna for Austrian National Radio's program "Kunstradio" in November of 2015. More recently, Eric has focused on working in modern dance accompaniment working with choreographers LynneMarie Ruise of Freefall Dance, John Jaspers, and Jennifer Lacey/Wally Cardona. Eric's recent recorded work draws from electro-acoustic ideas using unusual instruments in unconventional settings. He has recently finished a tour of the eastern United States as a solo act opening for Alexander Hacke and Danielle DePicciotto in support of their new CD release “Joy”.
