Nelson , of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA passed away on August 10, 2018 at home aged 72. In 1996 he was inducted into the Beach Music Hall of Fame as the drummer of the band "The Tempests". Nelson was a native of Indian Trail, North Carolina where he attended Sun Valley High School and was a co-captain of their first football team. After graduating in 1964 he began studies at UNC-Chapel Hill and completed his bachelor's degree in history at UNC-Charlotte. For many years Nelson attended Oxford University through Berkeley University in California. Nelson was the quintessential renaissance man, having been successful in all aspects of his life. In 1971 he founded Lemmond & Associates, a premier national point -of- purchase advertising company. His interests and endeavors were many. He was an avid researcher and history buff and spear headed the centennial celebration of his beloved hometown, Indian Trail. He enjoyed reading, and collecting old maps. He was a cigar aficionado and he assembled an extensive wine collection. His collection and cellar was featured in the noted wine magazine, "Wine Spectator". In 1992 he began "Cru Bourgeois", the first wine club in the Queen City. He was also a member of the ROMEO lunch group (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He was a recipient of the Bob Redd Award for outstanding service to the wine and food community in Charlotte. He was a founder of the Charlotte Food and Wine Weekend, a charity event that has raised millions of dollars for various charities in Charlotte.
