US singer from Indiana. "One of the newest- and most popular- folk artists out Indianapolis way is guitar strumming Lula Bell Si. Born in Oolitic, Indiana, Lula Bell didn't start singing and playing the guitar until she was sixteen years old. But, when the folks down the hills of southern Indiana began to hear the golden voice at parties and social gatherings, it wasn't long until a radio station in Bloomington gave her a sponsored 15-minute program six days a week. Since then, Lula Bell has played the state fairs with Lash LaRue and the cowboy music star's "Hollywood Jamboree." On February 10, 1953, she signed a contract with the Hamilton Recording Company of Indianapolis. Her first waxings; "Kentuckiana Walz" and "Cast A Spell on Me," have been top-rated tunes throughout Hoosierland for quite a spell." -Cowboy Songs magazine n°31 (jan/feb 1954)
