Swedish composer, born June 4, 1953 in Stöde parish, Västernorrland county. For a number of years, Westman composed mainly in the genre of electroacoustic music with national and international performances of works ranging from pure tapes, solo instruments, ensembles and choirs with electronics to the video composition "Under Construction" in collaboration with photographer Josef Doukkali. In 2010, his chamber opera "The Bear and the Violinist" was premiered to libretto by Lilian Goldberg. He was the initiator of the national project "Past, present - new sound" with premieres in about ten churches in Sweden in 2011. The following year he directed and produced (and wrote the script) the short film The Dream of Paradise .. In November 2011 he began - in collaboration with director Niklas Hellberg - the work with the full evening opera "I Annan Himmel" (own libretto with text ideas from Christina Nilsson) and completed this on Lucia Day 2014. In 2016 he directed and produced a film adaptation (feature film) of this opera in collaboration with English photographer Phil Jamieson. The film production was completed in March 2017. Shortly afterwards, he also began work on the follow-up opera "Dreams towards Tuscany", whose plot is a continuation of "In Another Sky."
