Masumi Nagasawa is a Japanese harpist, and one of the few performers in the world to master all at once modern Grand Harp, the single-action pedal harp from the 18th-19th century, the Irish harp and the kugo (Japanese ancient harp). She studied modern harp with Phia Berghout at the Conservatory in Maastricht and historical harp with Mara Galassi. In 1990, Nagasawa received the Muramatsu Music Prize Grand Prix Japan. Currently she teaches at the Conservatorium Maastricht and works on her Ph.D. at the University Of Leeds under professor Clive Brown. Masumi gave concerts in Amsterdam, Tokyo, Budapest, Rome, Prague, Washington DC, Copenhagen and Brussels. She has been a soloist with the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, St. John's College Choir, and accompanied Kiri Te Kanawa and Cecilia Bartoli. On historical harp, Masumi performed with The Academy of Ancient Music, Freiburger Barockorchester, Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, Kammerorchester Basel, Orchestra La Scintilla and The Netherlands Bach Society. International festivals where she performed include the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival, Salzburg and Geneva Music Festivals, the Akiyoshidai International Music Festival, and Torino Milano Festival Internazionale della Musica.
