Solomon Ho'opi'i

Hawaiian singer and ukulele player, no relation to slide guitarist Sol Hoopii. Solomon and his brother Richard Ho'opi'i started singing and playing together at church and church gatherings, which lead to them performing as a group at hotels and taking part in a song contest. Sol and Rick formed their own group in 1968 called The Ho’onanea Serenaders, before deciding to name their duo after themselves. When the Brothers recorded their debut album for Poki Records in 1975, Sol was 40 years old. Even as the group gained attention across the Hawaiian islands, he kept his job as a sanitation worker, all while maintaining a home with nine children. b.: March 28, 1935 d.: March 2, 2006
