Morris D. Hayes

Best known locally (Wisconsin) as the founder and conductor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Singing Statesmen formed in 1966. Received his education at the University of Nebraska. In 1953 he became the choral director at the Pueblo, CO., public schools. Moved to Wisconsin in 1956 - music instructor at UW Madison. Moved to Kansas State University in 1957 - director of glee clubs and oratio chorus. Returned to Wisconsin in 1966 - director of choral organizations for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. From 1969-1970 Hayes served as president of the North Central Division of the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). National president of the ACDA from 1972-1974. Retired in 1987 to Carlsbad, California.
