Jan Čermák

Czech musician, composer and bandleader (born December 26, 1867 in Vysoké Mýto, Czech Republic [then Austria-Hungary] - died July 27, 1935 in Vysoké Mýto, Czech Republic [then ČSR]) Čermák's career was devoted to teaching school-age children music. From around 1904, he organized a youth orchestra in town that was later continued by his son Josef. Both are nowadays honored by an annual competition for young brass musicians, called Čermákovo Vysoké Mýto. Čermák's compositions include many marches and folk songs like the well-known "Nemelem" or the pochod "Jesté Já Se Podivám".
