Finno-Balkan Voices is a vocal folk ensemble founded in 2010, and comprises two groups of folk singers, the Finnish group Mamo (3) and the Vaya Quartet from Bulgaria, combining two strong singing traditions. Their repertoire includes folk songs, commissioned pieces and songs written by the members of the ensemble. The idea for Finno-Balkan Voices came from Emmi Kujanpää. During her studies in the Plovdiv Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Bulgaria in 2009, she had a vision to combine the vocal traditions of Bulgaria and Finland. From the very beginning, Finno-Balkan Voices have been working together with Professor Dora Hristova, artistic director and conductor of the Bulgarian female vocal choir Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares.
