Freya Bailes

Dr. Freya Bailes is an oboe player and music researcher investigating musical imagery, specifically in its relation to perception. Her doctoral thesis was entitled Musical Imagery: Hearing and Imagining Music, and explored the nature and prevalence of musical imagery. Her research has been presented in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, South Korea, and the USA, while she has been published in Music Perception, Leonardo Music Journal, Psychology of Music, Musicae Scientiae, Empirical Musicology Review, Organised Sound, and Performance Research. Bailes has taught at the University of Sheffield, the University of Leeds (UK), and the University of Canberra (where she is the assistant director of the university's Music Society).
