Carlos Emilio Landaeta, best known as "Pan con Queso" Landaeta, was a famous Venezuelan luthier and percussionist. Landaeta was born on Caracas, Venezuela, November 4, 1920. Landaeta began his career as maracas player on 1947 with Luis Alfonzo Larrain's Orchestra, after that he joined to "Trío Siboney". Landaeta was one of the founders of reknowned "Sonora Caracas" working for three years, until 1951 when he was hired as bongos player on Billo's Caracas Boys Orchestra. Landaeta, after his experience with Billo began a long road throughout many bands as "Pedro J. Belisario", "Megatones de Lucho", Alberto Muñoz' Orchestra and "Los Dementes". Since 1968, "Pan con Queso" started his luthier career manufacturing percussion instruments known with his pseudonym. On 1975 Landaeta and a group of retired colleguees started a new musical group to play cuban music (son, guarachas, boleros) just for fun, they called theirselves "Los Puretos" (elder friends), until 1977, when Domingo Alvarez gave to the group a serious personalty and in that way was born a new group called as Sonero Clasico Del Caribe, where "Pan con Queso" was their director. "Pan con Queso" Landaeta died on september 30, 1991, in Caracas-Venezuela.
