Vivienne Chatterton

English singer and radio actress Born 8 June 1896 Paddington, England. Died 1 January 1974 (aged 77) London, England. She was married to musician and BBC director of music Leonard Stanton Jefferies. Her early career was as a singer of lieder, oratorio and opera, with roles in a number of London shows. She was Britain's first television actress. She was engaged throughout the Second World War on children's programmes, and in her post-war career she became noted as radio actor. Her career lasted more than 50 years as she was active from 1919-1974.
