Dieter Schneider

German lyricist. Born 10-Mar-1937 in Berlin, Germany. Died 22-Sep-2023 ibid. Schneider was married to Ilka Lux and Monika Herz. He specialized in Schlager music and was considered the most successful lyricist in the German Democratic Republic between 1955 and 1990. His first song-text was written in 1955. Despite his work being less prominent post-1990, many of his songs gained popularity with Schlager fans in the west. Schneider’s upbringing was largely institutionalized due to the war, and he suffered from Spinal Polio, which left him physically handicapped He spent much of his childhood in hospitals and orphanages. Despite these challenges, he developed a passion for writing and composed his first verses while still at school. Over his career, Schneider wrote around 3000 lyrics that were sung by approximately 400 artists.
