Nightlife is the Barbershop Harmony Society's 1996 International Quartet Champion. Nightlife first formed in 1988 with Rob Menaker on tenor, Dan Jordan on lead, Jeff Baker on baritone, and Brian Philbin on bass. In 1989, Brian left the group and went on to earn a few medals as the bass of Metropolis. Brett Littlefield replaced him as bass. In the fall of 1990, John Sasine replaced Dan Jordan as lead. They competed in their first international competition in Louisville, KY in 1991 and placed 31st. They then won the 1991 Fall Far Western District Contest. The quartet soon began their contest climb placing 11th in 1992 and 4th in 1993. They released their first recording entitled “Songs At Twilight” in 1993. They jumped up to 2nd in 1994 but dropped down to 3rd the following year. They finally won it all in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1996. That same international, the Masters Of Harmony won the international chorus contest which all four members of nightlife were a member of. The year after their victory, they released their second recording, “Basin Street Blues.” They released their third and final album, “Blues In The Night,” in 2000. They traveled all across the United States as well as Canada, England, Ireland, Germany, Australia, and Fiji. They performed for celebrities such as Dick Van Dyke, Bill Hanna, Ted Turner, and Jane Fonda. They also made appearances on national TV a few times. The quartet decided to take a break around 2006 but had several reunion performances. Baritone, Jeff Baker, died in 2017 from cancer. Nightlife started doing gigs again in 2021 for their 25th anniversary of winning the gold with Brett’s son, Cody Littlefield, filling Jeff’s slot as baritone. They have been back in business filling occasional engagements since.
