Frederik Nielsen

Frederik Nielsen, Fari, was a Greenlandic author, lyricist and songwriter, 1905-1991. After graduating as a catechist from the seminary in Nuuk (Godthåb), he was the first Greenlander to complete a Danish teacher education. In 1931-57 he worked in the Greenlandic school system and was for a period a member of the Greenland National Council, and 1957-69 head of Greenland Radio. Nielsen began his versatile literary production during his studies with a number of poems as well as the novel Tuumarsi (1934). His main work is a four-volume novel about the Greenlandic people through a thousand years. Nielsen has also made a great effort as a translator.
