Paraguayan bandoneon player, composer and arranger, born in Concepción on May 28, 1905, and died in Asunción on March 4, 1985. He began his musical studies with John Ashwell, then director of the Pilar Military Band. In 1925 he formed his own Typical Orchestra and in 1938 he directed the Giant Orchestra of the Paraguayan Musicians Association. In 1952 he composed the music for the film "Greed" and in 1955 he conducted three concerts with the Symphony Orchestra, interpreting the work of Moisés Zapattini. Throughout his career he influenced the formation of musicians of the last generation, especially among folklorists. A skilled bandoneon player and arranger of popular music for orchestras and bands, in the 1970s he worked as arranger for the Banda de Músicos de la Policía de la Capital. He was the founder of the School of Music of Autores Paraguayos Asociados (APA), where he taught harmony and composition. His concern for the study and dissemination of musical art and its projection in the youth, was permanent. In this context, there are unpublished works such as «Composición musical», «Tratado de contrapunto», «Tratado de armonía contrapuntística», «Tratado de fuga y su aplicación práctica en la composición musical paraguaya contemporánea». His production includes symphonic and popular works such as the songs: “Jahe'o soro”, “Nde po'a jeguakarã”, “Farra syryry”, ”Canción del deportista”, "Clamor de ansiedad" and "Tu mirar"; the symphonic poems “Sueño de artista”, “Patria mía”, “Asunción de antaño”, “Asunción rohayhu” and “Matorral”, and the chamber work “Divertimento para cuerdas”. Among them, “Sueño de artista” and “Divertimento para cuerdas” were recorded in 1950 by the Orquesta de la Asociación del Profesorado Orquestal de Buenos Aires, under the direction of the paraguayan maestro Carlos Lara Bareiro. Luis Cañete is also the author of the book «Lenguaje Musical Argentino».
